Chance to atone for his past? You mean, Doyle gets to kick it because he never fully accepted his half-demon side? Gee, those are exactly the same. Angel needs to die to atone for his past of MUDERING THOUSANDS. Doyle needs to die to atone for being insecure with himself? I so see the connection. It was a beautiful episode, and shockingly sad - just like every other death in the Joss-verse. It sneaks up on you and then BOOM, someone's dead and you're like OMIGODS, what just happened? And, despite the issue of needing to atone or not, Doyle made a beautiful sacrifice with a good exiting-line for a great cause (which would never again be mentioned, but, ah well). Am I the only one that found The Scourge amusing as hell? Huh, right, ignore that then. But the intro and the way the title fit into everything so perfectly was... well... perfect.
